We want to understand which stories reach people and help sponsors understand the audience they support.

What we measure

Our analytics counts visits to registered pages, episode and profile views, and interactions with marked sponsor links. A sponsor impression means at least half of its placement was visible for one continuous second while the page was visible. It does not prove that a person noticed or read it.

We also record broad referral categories, such as search or social, and general browser, operating system and device categories. We do not collect location through this analytics system.

What stays out of analytics

We use no analytics cookies or browser storage. We do not send form contents, email addresses, full referring addresses, page query strings or URL fragments into our analytics records. We do not use session replay or link visits to a signed-in identity.

The collection server receives your IP address and browser information as part of the connection. It uses them to derive a daily estimate of browsers and networks; it does not store the raw IP address or raw browser identification string in analytics records. These estimates are not counts of unique people.

Your browser preferences

Our analytics stops sending events when your browser signals Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. Blocking analytics does not prevent you from reading the site, following links or using the audio player.

Access and retention

Cybernut operates the analytics service for Enemies of the State. Detailed records are limited to authorized operators and reporting users. Daily cleanup removes records older than 90 days and encrypted backup copies older than 14 days. Retention is reapplied during recovery. Audience and sponsor totals may be shared in sponsorship reports.

This notice describes audience analytics. Newsletter signup is handled by Buttondown. Contact and sponsor forms, audio services and external links may involve other providers and their own data practices.
