William “Will” Gillis is the executive director of the Fully Informed Jury Association (FIJA), a nonprofit focused on educating the public about juries and jury nullification. He writes for FIJA about juror independence, grand juries, and public education on jury rights. In E004, he joins Ed “NJ Weedman” Forchion and host James Babb to examine what a jury can do when law and conscience collide.
Why this voice is here.
In E004, Gillis explains FIJA’s approach to juror education and argues that a juror’s conscience can matter when a law or its application produces an unjust result. He discusses the history of jury independence, public outreach, sentencing information, and contemporary pressure on juries. These are his and FIJA’s advocacy positions; laws and jury instructions differ by jurisdiction.
